The longer this drug is unavailable, the more people we will lose,&quot; Punia said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The law has never before been applied to a pharmaceutical product in Russia, Punia said after the Vedomosti daily reported on his company&#039;s letter to the Kremlin on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gilead could not be reached for comment outside of normal business hours on Monday. It has already granted voluntary licenses to manufacturers in 127 countries, primarily in low-income countries or countries that have other significant barriers to access to health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russia reported a record high daily number of 18,665 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic to 1,655,038.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remdesivir was granted emergency use authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration in May after government-initiated trials showed it shortened hospital stays for patients with COVID-19. It was one of the drugs Trump received during his treatment for the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FDA officially approved the drug this month, despite recent results from a World Health Organization-sponsored study that showed remdesivir did not improve patients&#039; conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pharmasyntez, according to the registry, completed clinical trials of the generic drug on 300 patients with COVID-19 in 23 Russian hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Punia said the company can sell its drug at a significantly lower price of around 540$ for 6 vials.
